Rmndell Cbc Cast Romdy Rous Gast of the Sea Glrond's palace The inspiration for this project comes from my desire to try my hand at giving my personal interpretation of a popular imaginary place and my love for the Lord of the Rings. I imagined Rivendell as a series of buildings perched on a series of cliffs and rock spurs overlooking a waterfall, all connected by bridges and ramparts that form panoramic walkways. Rivendell was a fortress before becoming a sanctuary, and a shelter and I wanted this to show through the general layout of the area, with a main gate, ramparts and a keep much like a medieval castle that has ceased to serve as a military facility and gradually became a residential place, with new buildings built on top of the old walls and towers. I wanted the architecture to be giving a sense of vertical ness, like the steep sides of the mountains surrounding Rivendell. art by Edoardo Campagnolo
Rivcndell In my imagination Elrond's palace should be towering, elegant and the same time harmonious and peaceful. My main inspiration for the architecture comes from eastern european wooden houses and churches, in particular from traditional romanian rural houses and russian wooden architectural elements. The purpose of the wooden elements is to bring a warm feeling to the building and to communicate lightness and a welcoming place. The stone foundations are a reminder of the military destination of the first buildings of Rivendell while the light-grey tiles of the roofs have the purpose of better reflecting the light from dusk and dawn, colouring Rivendell with golds and reds at specific hours of the day. art by Edoardo Campagnolo
