As Frodo lay, tired but unable to close his eyes, it seemed to him that far away there came a light in the eastern sky: it flashed and faded many times. It was not the dawn, for that was still some hours off.
'What is the light?' he said to Strider, who had risen, and was standing, gazing ahead into the night.
'I do not know,' Strider answered. 'It is too distant to make out. It is like lightning that leaps up from the hill-tops.'
Frodo lay down again, but for a long while he could still see the white flashes, and against them the tall dark figure of Strider, standing silent and watchful. At last he passed into uneasy sleep.
Позже со слов Гэндальфа:
"But they closed round at night, and I was besieged on the hill-top, in the old ring of Amon Sûl. I was hard put to it indeed: such light and flame cannot have been seen on Weathertop since the war-beacons of old."
Про Балрога:
'Out he sprang, and even as I came behind, he burst into new flame. There was none to see, or perhaps in after ages songs would still be sung of the Battle of the Peak.' Suddenly Gandalf laughed. 'But what would they say in song? Those that looked up from afar thought that the mountain was crowned with storm. Thunder they heard, and lightning, they said, smote upon Celebdil, and leaped back broken into tongues of fire. Is not that enough?'
До Имладриса несли без него. Он в это время точно по назгулам молниями стрелял.
После Имладриса крупных энкаунтеров до Балрога не было. По Балрогу он гарантированно тоже чем-то стрелял. Дальше опять без него несли.
Как по мне "Хоббит" слишком растянут. Там бы и одного фильма хватило.
Особенно это заметно если сравнивать с "Властелином", в котором наоборот ужимали и вырезали материал.
Там в описаниях природы много редких слов. Ну и в диалогах стандартные архаизмы типа "wherefore art thou Romeo?", но не так хардкорно как у Шекспира. В остальном сложностей не должно быть.
Вообще читать литературу в оригинале - это очень достойно. Респект тебе!
Мне вообще всегда при прочтении казалось, что это аллегория на грозу в горах + разыгравшееся воображение хоббита, который никогда такого не встречал: "All was well, until one day they met a thunderstorm—more than a thunderstorm, a thunder-battle. You know how terrific a really big thunderstorm can be down in the land and in a river-valley; especially at times when two great thunderstorms meet and clash. More terrible still are thunder and lightning in the mountains at night, when storms come up from East and West and make war. The lightning splinters on the peaks, and rocks shiver, and great crashes split the air and go rolling in tumbling into every cave and hollow; and darkness is filled with overwhelming noise and sudden light. Bilbo ... saw that across the valley the stone-giants were out, and were hurling rocks at one another for a game, and catching them, and tossing them down into the darkness where they smashed among the trees far below, or splintered into little bits with a bang ... they could hear the giants guffawing and shouting all over the mountainsides." Поэтому в экранизации мне это показалось совершенно глупым моментом сделанным ради спецэффектов.
