Tolkien's poem, "Fall of Gil-galad!" We worked very hard on this and hope you enjoy it:) A note on our interpretation: The first verse is meant to set the tone of the piece as a lament, with a single narrating voice, as though anyone could mourn the loss of such a champion: whether elf, or man, or hobbit (for Sam sung this lament in the Fellowship of the Ring). The second verse is meant to recall the glory of Gil galad, for Tolkein describes him as a warrior worthy of heaven. This verse falls off into a void as the elves have their final say before an evil power takes the final verse. In the third verse, we took a different angle on the interpretation, and rather than having the good peoples lament, it is as if the voice of Mordor itself seizes the song and sings the rest in sadistic satisfaction of having claimed this hero. This interpretation seemed to give the most powerful punch to the most iconic line of this poem "In Mordor where the shadows are..." That being said, we don't want to leave people with doom and gloom, so remember, no matter what evil seems to prevail, good always triumphs in the end! His shining helm afar was seen; the countless stars of heaven's field were mirrored in his silver shield. But long ago he rode away, and where he dwelleth none can say; for into darkness fell his star in Mordor where the shadows are.
